I was in the back garden of my house. There was a small gooey substance on the floor. My dog started spreading it around and slugs started forming for the substance all over the place. It was gross and uncomfortable. Then snakes started appearing, an endless trail of them going between two parts of my house. Some snakes got out and I’d run away or try to get them to go away but one fought back. A hog came up to me and I thought it was dangerous so I was cautious but then I tried to pet the hog and they were friendly. He really liked him and started hugging him, he became sort of my pet. Another part of my dream; I was on holiday with my mum. She let my abusive (who used to abuse me) come but didn’t tell me. The whole holiday we were separated and my mum spent different time with us. On the way home she said we were going to be travelling back together but I did not want to see him so I got angry and smashed her wine glass.
Your dream contains rich symbolism and multiple elements that reflect various aspects of your subconscious mind, past experiences, and current emotional states. Let’s break down the different components to unravel their meanings.
The back garden typically symbolizes personal space, privacy, and the aspects of yourself that you might not showcase to the world. The small gooey substance could represent something that feels uncomfortable or unpleasant in your life—perhaps a negative emotion, unprocessed trauma, or an issue that is being ignored. The fact that your dog spreads it around suggests a connection to emotional honesty or loyalty but also signifies how real-life situations can become more complicated or messy when they are brought into the light.
Slugs represent feelings of sluggishness, lethargy, or obstacles that seem to ooze rather than crawl. They may signify feelings of stagnation in your life. The endless trail of snakes, on the other hand, often embodies hidden fears, anxiety, or repressed anger. Snakes can also symbolize transformation—indicating that you might be going through a period of significant change or facing unresolved issues. The struggle of getting rid of the snakes suggests a battle with these feelings that are attempting to surface, and the fact one snake fought back might point to a specific internal conflict that feels particularly daunting.
Interestingly, the appearance of the hog shifts the tone of the dream. While the hog initially appears dangerous, it transforms into a friendly figure. This could symbolize the exploration of emotions or aspects of yourself that initially seem threatening or aggressive but end up being nurturing or comforting. The act of hugging the hog indicates a desire for companionship and healing. It could signal that amidst all the negativity, there are fond memories or aspects of yourself that can provide solace if embraced.
The holiday scenario represents a change of environment or a desire for escape; however, it holds a tension that mirrors unresolved conflicts in your relationship with your mother. The presence of the person who used to abuse you suggests that past traumas are still haunting you and that there may be feelings of powerlessness regarding your ability to control your environment or context. Your anger at your mother for allowing this person to join indicates deep resentment and hurt, reflecting the violation of trust and boundaries that you feel.
Smashed wine glass symbolizes a breaking point in your emotional state, representing your frustrations boiling over. It also symbolizes the fragility of relationships, particularly with your mother, and the potential consequences of confronting these deep-seated issues. This act could be an unconscious expression of your desire to reclaim your power and resist situations that harm you emotionally.
Overall, this dream seems to be a collection of strong emotions and unresolved past traumas—symbolizing the struggle between acceptance and rejection, trust and betrayal, comfort and discomfort. It shows a yearning for healing and companionship while grappling with feelings of fear, anger, and confusion. Reflecting on these symbols and their meanings can provide you with deeper insights into your waking life, offering opportunities for self-exploration, emotional processing, and ultimately, empowerment.
